Reflexology as a therapy was developed by Eunice Ingham but using the feet to reflect the inner workings of the body may have its roots in ancient Egypt and China. Your reflexologist sees the feet as a map of the internal structures of the body. It is a useful tool to look at how the body works and highlight lifestyle factors that are affecting optimum working or homeostasis.
It is believed that by working on a corresponding area of the foot, the body can be brought back into balance. There is very little clinical evidence to prove this but many case studies from around the world suggest its benefit as a therapeutic treatment. Reflexology remains a good mirror of health and well being as well as being a very calming and relaxing treatment.
In 1938 Eunice Ingham published her findings in “Stories the Feet can Tell” and I have to admit I could tell a few myself!
